Job Overview:


The Automation Specialist is responsible for the administration and support of our production and QA job scheduling tool within Mission Control of IT Operations at Lord Abbett.  The individual is responsible for the daily health and well being of the automation environment and systems, which currently consists of Cisco’s workload automation software and its associated products. This includes daily troubleshooting of failed jobs, including the associated scripts and schedules, the creation and /or modification of new jobs as they are submitted and evaluated, and the reporting and escalation of issues to senior management. The Automation Specialist is also responsible for the planning of initial and ongoing training of all Operations Specialists in the proper operation of the system.  They will also participate in any special projects that involve providing coverage from Mission Control, which may include nights, weekends and holidays as well as Disaster Recovery Testing.


The candidate should be a visionary in terms automating infrastructure related tasks


Include, but are not limited to:

  • Excellent communication skills with experience interacting and supporting developers
  • Experience and skillset focusing on job scheduling and automation engineering solutions using Cisco’s Tidal workload automation scheduling software
  • Experience working in distributed computing environments specifically Windows, Unix/Linux, Oracle, MS SQL
  • PowerShell and JavaScript experience.
  • Experience working in small and medium sized environments
  • Prepare test strategy, plans and data for testing new deployments and/or enhancement
  • Develop and monitor performance metrics and reports to identify issues and conduct predictive analysis
  • Provide technical review of change requests before implementing
  • Ability to communicate and articulate issues, concerns, and resolutions both written and orally to technology and management
  • Take ownership of the batch scheduling environment as the SME
  • Take part in the daily turnover process with imperial troubleshooting ability
  • Maintain all production documentation regarding the automation environment and distribute as needed
  • Ensure all automation specifications meet current company policies and guidelines
  • Ensure all Operations Specialists are trained in the operation of all aspects of the job automation environment, from basic operation, troubleshooting of issues and escalating to external resources
  • Monitor all jobs, report any abnormalities, perform basic troubleshooting, and escalate as needed for resolution
  • Provide status of any new or updated automation requests to the incoming shift.
  • Conduct yourself with the utmost professional manner at all times
  • Engineer scheduling solutions for application support staff and other clients
  • Maintain Tidal environment to include licensing, capacity planning, software and hardware upgrades and patching as necessary
  • Create/enhance the environments to the degree where job scheduling occurs in a life cycle environment from creation to testing to Q/A to acceptance to promotion into production environment using an established Change Management System







  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 5 years of Cisco Workload Scheduler, versions 5.3, 6.3 &, Transporter a must
  • Financial background a plus
  • 8 -10 years’ experience
  • Well organized and able to work on own initiative
  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • Experience with ServiceNow,  Nagios, Netbackup & Veeam a plus
  • Knowledge of datacenter technologies
  • Demonstrated experience with project management, ITIL framework
  • Ability to gather business requirements and communicate with technical staff
  • Ability and willingness to learn new technologies to support the firm
  • This is a weekday shift with weekend and on-call support as required
