Job Overview:

The Director of Mutual Fund Tax will be responsible for all tax matters relating to the Lord Abbett domestic comingled vehicles including Mutual Funds, Partnerships and CITs.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for overseeing Regulated Investment Company tax compliance

  • Review tax provisions and financial statement tax disclosure

  • Review year end Excise Tax distributions

  • Compute/review tax adjustments related to complex securities including swaps, options, forwards, futures, CPDI and others

  • Prepare/review year end tax reporting including the ICI file, shareholder tax guide and 1099s

  • Review partnership tax returns including allocations and tax adjustments

  • Review RIC income, excise and state tax returns

  • Maintain the content of the Lord Abbett Tax Center

  • Monitor distribution yield and review monthly/quarterly dividends paid

  • Represent the Tax Department at product meetings

  • Work closely with Director of Taxation on strategic initiatives

  • Liaise with tax advisors as needed

  • Keep current with tax law changes that may affect Lord Abbett’s products and investments

  • Liaise with all investment operations teams, legal and compliance, distribution, fund administration, portfolio management and various service providers

  • Work collaboratively with management to develop recommendations and identify improvement opportunities

  • Motivate, lead, and train group of four tax professionals


  • Ten + years of Regulated Investment Company tax experience - public accounting preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Strong knowledge of Excel
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Masters in Taxation and/or CPA preferred
