Job Overview:


The Manager of Wintel/Messaging is a critical role in our technology organization with a broad scope in strategy and collaboration. This individual will oversee the Windows server, Virtualization and Messaging environments both for on premise and cloud platforms. They will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, reliability, uptime, and the team who manages these technologies. In addition they will act as a business partner with other technology and business user teams. A critical component will be to seek out and execute on new technology trends while providing guidance and industry experience to ensure success. The person needs to have technical acumen and a very strong commitment to team building. An ability to mentor and develop personnel is a key component of this job.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage and mentor infrastructure engineers, directing their day-to-day activities

  • Provide technical leadership in the areas of Windows Operating System, VMware Virtualization, Microsoft Exchange and Cloud Technologies

  • Provide technical leadership for operations support of incident escalations for urgent support; Interface with customers when appropriate during events and post-mortem;

  • Manage the critical infrastructure to achieve 100% uptime

  • Design and implement Technology Operations improvements using ITIL framework and to promote greater efficiency in managing applications;

  • Deep knowledge of infrastructure design, storage implementations, virtualization platforms

  • Background in properly securing, architecting and backing up enterprise systems

  • Experience working with application engineering teams, managing changes to the production environment and supporting systems.

  • Participate in disaster recovery testing and business continuity planning sessions


Additional Areas of Responsibility

  • Serve as the liaison between Technology Infrastructure Teams and Application Teams for project initiations and general communication.

  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels to ensure business-aligned Technology team is kept abreast of the major enterprise environment changes, key strategies and initiatives.

  • Collaborate with Technology leadership to implement business strategies that leverage and integrate technology strategy of infrastructure and application development for existing and new technology to achieve business objectives.

  • Partner with business and technology owners to develop and maintain technology need demand/forecast.

  • Facilitate the review of service delivery costs for the business-aligned technology organization and recommend cost-saving infrastructure options.

  • For identified problems and issues, navigate through the technology organization at large to resolve issues, look for real root cause and, when needed, handle organizational conflicts that impede service delivery.

  • Set and implement practices and operating standards to continuously improve quality and reliability

  • To maintain a detailed knowledge of the key business processes and systems employed by the business

  • To assist with the prioritisation of projects, particularly using cost / benefit analysis to proactively managing demand

  • Make objective recommendations regarding the relative fit of technology to business need

  • To maintain a detailed understanding of technology both operational performance and progress of on-going development, playing a leading role in problem resolution

  • Provide transparency for covered clients on production maintenance and projects.

  • Build strong customer relationships by understanding their technology Infrastructure needs and providing quality service management.

  • Represent technology Infrastructure by providing a central point of information for all related technology Infrastructure activities. This includes acting as a single point of contact for Network, Information Security, Desktop, NCC, Engineering, BCP, ITA, Storage and Facilities.

  • Represent technology Infrastructure in all operational and development meetings. Meet with business facing team stakeholders on a regular basis with a collaboratively defined agenda and disseminate minutes of those meetings to all participants.

  • Work with business-aligned technology teams to identify project dependencies to ensure consistency of all infrastructure service delivery commitments.

  • Ensures project status updates are relevant, current and accurately portray the health of the project

  • To play a proactive role in building and maintaining Service Level Agreements

  • Act as a project leader/manager, co-ordinating the work of both internal and external technology resources when required.

  • Improve the Service Level Quality with an ITIL focus.

  • Build and nurturing relationships with key technology leaders and stakeholders to ensure good understanding of their needs and to deliver the right services and support to derive the desired value from our technology offerings and to manage their expectations.


  • 5+ Years in an Technical Management Role
  • 10+ Years’ experience with Microsoft Windows, Vmware, Exchange, and various data Backup Technologies.
  • 3+ Years with Cloud Architecture specific to AWS and Azure
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Good project management skills. PMP and ITSM knowledge and certification a plus.
  • Ability to communicate complex problems in a non-technical and simplified manner
  • Attention to detail and excellent analytic skills
  • Well organized and able to work on own initiative
  • Good interpersonal skills, able to influence and engender collaboration
  • Bachelors Degree
